Pastor Johnny R. Spence

Psalms 18:1-2 says” …. I will love thee, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.”

Pastor Johnny R. Spence was born and raised in Austin, Texas. He became a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church since 1975. Pastor Spence accepted Christ as his personal Savior in 1980. He grew up in Mt. Olive and became Junior Usher President at age 13, Usher Coordinator at age 20 and Senior Usher President at 25. He remained in this position until he accepted his call in December 2004. Under the leadership of Pastor Richard E. Carter, he preached his 1st Sermon in February 2005. Pastor Spence attended Wm. B. Travis High School. Upon Graduation, he furthered his education and attended Austin Community College and the University of Texas at Austin where he studied Electrical Engineering. In 2010, Pastor Spence became the proud Pastor of Zion Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, in Taylor, Tx. Since then, in 2011, Pastor Spence has received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biblical Studies from the Mt. Olive Bible Institute and received a Master of Divinity in Biblical Studies in 2018. Currently he teaches Homiletics, Expository Preaching & the Hermeneutical Triad at the Mount Olive Bible Institute.

Pastor Spence and his High School Sweetheart have been married for 30+ years.
He has 3 daughters, 1 son & 1 granddaughter:

Jessica (UTSA Graduate of Bachelor of Arts Degree in Kinesiology; Stony Point High School Science Teacher/Sped Dept. Head)

Jasmine (Howard University Graduate of Bachelor of Arts Degree-Cum Laude in Criminal Justice; NCCU Law Graduate; Principal Counsel @ Maximus Law Firm in Atlanta, Georgia)

Janay (UNT Graduate in Denton, Tx., Bachelor of Arts Degree in Integrative Studies-English/History/Business w/a Minor in Music; DPS-DMV Clerk of Denton/Lewisville, Tx.)

Jeremy (Texas Tech University Graduate, Bachelor of Arts Degree in Child Psychology)

Over the years, Pastor Spence has held many positions and offices throughout the church and the St. John’s District.
